VISUAL ARTIST

Elias Avramidis is a visual artist based in London. His art is a hybrid of figure drawing and geometrical patterns. This represents the tension between artistic creativity and structural oppression.  Thematically, he has been dealing with imaginary islands, confined spaces and contemporary mysticism through hagiography. His practice involves colour pencils on textured paper. The human figures are based on himself and also inspired by the Ancient Greek statues. They are kept uncoloured so that they appear as alien and unintegrated as possible in their geometric environment, which gives an illusionary promise of an open horizon.
